Down and Around

Squirrel goes up the phone poll
thinking it’s a tree
knowing it’s a tree
because squirrels don’t think of things as cities
or the country
they only know what they know and what they know is
tree
there are no acorns at the top
and I wonder if it disappoints them,
as it sometimes disappoints me.
