Two Sleeps

Sleep is easiest with one hand outstretched, resting on the side table
I’ve never known why this is true,
but it is.

Yesterday I fell asleep on top of my arm
and when I woke up, I hadn’t been able to move it.

I thought I could, but when I looked down, it flopped beneath me,
until, prickled with static, the blood returned.
